Here is an overview of the basic components that make Grace Place a unique learning experience every
week.
LEARNING CENTERS: You wont find a third grade
classroom at Grace Place. What
you will find are colorful rooms that host a different age group each Sunday
with a particular activity. For example, your second grader may be in the Hallelujah Hut (photo on left) one Sunday and at
the Animation Station (photo on right) the next. Each learning center
emphasizes a specific learning style because God didnt build kids all the same
way. Drama works best with some children, art and music with others, and
puzzles or visuals with yet another group.
TEACHING FOR
COMPREHENSION: A few years ago Christian educators
discovered that most elementary Sunday school students miss about every third
lesson. With a different lesson each week that means most students will
only learn about two-thirds of the Bible at best!
The Grace
Place solution: teach the lesson once and repeat it for three
weeks. Although it sounds like a recipe for boredom, it is anything
but! We look at the same subject from at least three unique angles.
Each week the class will either focus on the main story, dig into the verse, or
discover truths about the general theme (i.e., forgiveness, Gods power,
etc.)
SHEPHERDS AND TEACHERS: While
your child will be in a different room each week, he/she will have the same adult to guide
them both physically and spiritually. We call them shepherds. Their
main task is to build a relationship with their students with a purpose to
helping them to put their trust in Jesus and follow Him. (If you have a
question about your child in Grace
Place, be sure to contact his or her shepherd.)
Each learning center has its own teacher who is gifted in the particular
activity du jour. We have computer gurus in GP Labs, artsy types in the
Make & Take Shoppe, and adults who never grew up in Fun & Games.
That may be a bit of an overstatement but you get the picture.
SCHEDULE: So, you ask, how does
this all work on Sunday morning?
Grace Place begins each Sunday at
9:35 and is divided into four time periods: Welcome
(9:35-9:45) includes hands-on activities to remind our students of last
weeks lesson. Warm-Up (9:45-10:05) is a time of singing,
review, and presenting special missions projects. Workshops
(10:05-10:35) happen in our learning centers located on the lower floor. The age
of the group that meets in each learning center is posted on the
door. Wrap-up (10:35-11:45) is the class shepherds time
to give the students an opportunity to respond to the main point of the
learning center.
